The UPR Human Rights Commission trains journalists the UPR A key outcome of the training is the formation of a journalists network on the UPR

The Human Rights Commission Sierra Leone on Tuesday, 2nd August 2016, trained journalists from selected media houses on the Universal Periodic Review; essentially how they should help in monitoring the recommendations given by member states at the human rights council in February this year to the Government of Sierra Leone.A total of 208 recommendations were submitted to the government, including calls to abolish the death penalty, banning FGM and DECRIMINALIZING LIBEL.

Journalists are expected to monitor the implementation of these recommendations and remind government of its commitment to protect and promote human rights at all levels.A key outcome of the training is the formation of a journalists network on the UPR, with the Human Rights Commission providing the necessary guidance and direction.The journalists were awarded certificates of participation after the training session.
